Monetary Cost of Smoking

The average cost of a pack of cigarettes is about $5. We'll also use that as a baseline as far as how much a smoker smokes in a day. This obviously would be 7 packs a week, or $35. After multiplying this figure out for a year and then dividing by 12, we come up with an average monthly cost of about $150 per month. So $150 per month to smoke. I guess if you're well off or put a high priority on buying your cigarettes this isn't that much to worry about. I mean if you think of all the gains from smoking, paying $150 price every month for them really doesn't seem like a lot!

Seriously though, the $5 per pack of cigarettes is just the beginning.

I have wasted    on smoking cigarettes!

Other than the direct cost of the cigarettes each day/month/year the following are some things that are effected by your continuing to smoke:

  • Health Care
  • Decreased Value of your Possessions
  • Increased cost of Home Owner's Insurance
  • Dental Care
  • Interest On Money You Would Have Had

If there was somehow a way to pay for all these expenses while paying for those packs of cigarettes, your cost per pack of smokes would not be just $5, it would be more like $20 per pack of cigarettes. All of these monetary costs and it doesn't include the price you pay to your appearance.
